WAMbassador & Wheatbelt Touring Circuit

TOUR 2 READY TO GO FOLLOWING A SUCCESSFUL START TO THE 2016 CIRCUIT, INCLUDING WAMBASSADORS ANNOUNCEMENT

 

In partnership with RAC, and with support from the Department of Culture and the Arts, Royalties For Regions and Country Arts WA, WAM’s 2016 Wheatbelt Touring Circuit kicked off in style last weekend. Venues were packed despite the wet weather (some even filled to capacity!), setting things up for a massive second tour in the series, including expanding to four huge shows.

Headlined by WA Country Music Awards winner and multi-WAMi nominee Davey Craddock & The Spectacles, they’ll be performing on all dates with WAM SOTY-nominated, respected country/rock/roots artist Belle Harvey. Across the venues, Wheatbelt acts supporting the headliners will include The Primary Collective featuring WAMbassador Jayden Crook, The Wildlings, Gauge Harder, Hayden McGlinn, WAMbassador Pete Byfield, WAMbassador Hayden Sprigg and a guest artist from the Narrogin Musicians Association (TBA). Tour 2 will roll into Dowerin on Wednesday 24 August as part of the Dowerin GWN7 Machinery Field Days Sundowner at the Dowerin Community Club; on Friday 26 at Bruce Rock District Club; Saturday 27 at the Corrigin Hotel; and finishing Sunday 28 August at the Quindanning Inne.

As recently announced, this year sees the introduction of the WAMbassadors initiative, which involves select musicians from across the Wheatbelt region engaging with communities during the Wheatbelt Touring Circuit series. The WAMbassadors’ role is to assist the Wheatbelt music networks and audiences to establish financially viable regional tour circuits, all the while creating long-lasting community impacts, including promoting the #elephantinthewheatbelt road safety campaign from RAC.

RAC General Manager of Corporate Affairs Will Golsby said, “WAMbassadors will engage with the community to raise awareness about the region’s unacceptable road safety record and to help save lives and stop serious injuries on Wheatbelt roads.”

The Wheatbelt Touring Circuit is a rare program that sees free entry performances in traditional pub venues, community rec centres and clubs throughout the Wheatbelt region, with leading acts from WA’s metro areas combining with a vast array of talented upcoming and established acts from the Wheatbelt.
