WHEATBELT TOURING CIRCUIT: Tour 3 announced, incl. Pete Byfield launches

29 Aug

TOUR 3 READY TO GO FOLLOWING A HUGE, WHEATBELT WAMBASSADOR-PACKED BEGINNING

In partnership with RAC, and with support from the Department of Culture and the Arts, Royalties For Regions and Country Arts WA, WAM’s 2016 Wheatbelt Touring Circuit reached huge audiences last week, which saw an extended tour taking in the Dowerin GWN7 Machinery Field Days Sundowner and many of the artists also playing the WAM-organised live music program at Field Days. The next tour is already upon us though, and there’s a very special WAMbassador and Wheatbelt fave leading the way.

Headlined by West Australian Country Music Awards winner and newly appointed WAMbassador Pete Byfield, his new band will also be on tour to help Pete launch his brand new single Atmissphere. Award-winning Geraldton-based artist Darcy Hay will also perform on all dates. Wheatbelt acts supporting the headliners include Tides2Music (presented by Narrogin Musicians Association), Mhindel (duo mode, with one half Wheatbelt WAMbassador Erin Pope) and a special guest to be announced for Moora Agricultural Show. Tour 3 will land in: the Quindanning Inne on Thursday 15 September; Merredin on Friday 16 at The Tivoli Room, Cummins Theatre; and finishing in Moora Saturday 17 September at The Moora Agricultural Show on the Main Oval.

As recently announced, this year’s Wheatbelt Touring Circuit has just seen the introduction of the Wheatbelt WAMbassadors initiative, with select musicians from across the Wheatbelt region engaging with communities during the Wheatbelt Touring Circuit series. The WAMbassadors’ role is to assist the Wheatbelt music networks and audiences to establish financially viable regional tour circuits, all the while creating long-lasting community impacts, including promoting the #elephantinthewheatbelt road safety campaign from RAC.

RAC General Manager of Corporate Affairs Will Golsby said, “The Wheatbelt WAMbassadors will engage with the community to raise awareness about the region’s unacceptable road safety record and to help save lives and stop serious injuries on Wheatbelt roads.”

The Wheatbelt Touring Circuit is a rare program that sees largely free entry performances in traditional pub venues, community rec centres and clubs throughout the Wheatbelt region, with leading acts from WA’s metro areas combining with a vast array of talented upcoming and established acts from the Wheatbelt. Select Artists’ Bios
PETE BYFIELD: Pete’s writing career started in 2014 with the inclusion of Wialki on WAM’s Sounds Of The Wheatbelt compilation. In 2015 Pete released his first album 1 (ONE, produced by Joel Quartermain), which was awarded Album Of The Year at the West Australian Country Music Awards, plus he received a nomination for Best Male Artist. His song Ashes received a nomination for WAM Song Of The Year in 2016. This year Pete has since released three singles: Dark Train, Outta Space Outta Time and Atmissphere, the latter being launched to coincide with WAM’s Wheatbelt Touring Circuit #3. Pete’s also recently been announced as a Wheatbelt WAMbassador, a logical flow-on from Pete’s involvement with RAC and the ‘It’s My Elephant’ campaign.

DARCY HAY
: Geraldton-based, Darcy revels in Australian folk, country and blues, the singer-songwriter often involving a topical or political bent to his tunesmithery. He has an unquenchable thirst for playing guitar, writing lyrics and blasting a bit of harmonica on a rack, these witnessed on his album release earlier this year. It’s skills like these that have seen him winner of the Geraldton Fame Seeker Award (for original song Free Like The Birds) and of the inaugural Mitch Davies Geraldton Acoustic Guitar Competition.

TIDES2MUSIC: From Narrogin, David Harrison and John Brooks have been involved in the music industry in WA for 30+ years under many guises. With the release of their first album, Ten Thousand Faces, they made a few changes; including the new band name TIDES2MUSIC and the occasional appearance of some of the original members of the Tides in their line up. This has resulted in the broadening of the band’s repertoire, and good times guaranteed!

MHINDEL (DUO): A collective of talented female artists, Mhindel focus on playing a sweet blend of folky roots. Playing in duo form for this show including Erin Pope. A recently appointed WAMbassador, Erin is passionate about sharing stories from home, both the good and the bad, but always impacting powerfully.

NARROGIN MUSICIANS ASSOCIATION: With a rich heritage, NMA are an organisation interested in the promotion of music in the Narrogin area, including acting as the Big Bash Committee and organising events such as jam sessions, trivia nights and transport to concerts, as well as stocking the Wheatbelt Touring Circuit’s Quindanning shows with quality talent!
