Wialki is the area in which our family took up new land
farming in the 1960’s. These events are etched in my
memory.

lyrics

well I cut my teeth on a 9g tractor
pulling a 14 disc plough
my mum she’s sittin’ there beside me
she’d hold that brolley if it showed
my dad’s on the inter diesel fumes and dust in his eyes
we’re on the edge of the wheat belt
no rain, just dust and flies
well we go round and round putting seed in the ground
singing all my favourite country songs
as the wheels turn around oh how I love that diesel
sound
as the sun is climbing up the sky
(now the clouds they’re forming in the sky)
(as the rains starts falling from the sky)
well we’re up well before the crack o’ dawn
breakfast in the old bough shed
dad’s up first he stokes that metters fire
the billy boils and mum gets out of bed
the ute tow starts the 9g the 9g tows the inter she fires
we’re on the edge of the wheatbelt
no rain just dust and flies
horizon gazin’, pining, pining
pining for mum’s stew and apple pie
here she comes over the hill I spy that old vanguard
a trail of dust against that cloudy sky
mum keeps those wheels turning while dad and I eat
and check the sky
we’re on the edge of the wheat belt
with stew, apple pie and flies
well I cut my teeth on a 9g tractor pulling a 14 disc plough
